Fried Rice

-2 cups long grain white rice
-1 1/2 tablespoons of butter
-1 package onion soup mix
-1 teaspoon garlic powder
-1/4 cup soya sauce

For curried fried rice add
-2 teaspoon curry powder or more if you like it really spicy
Also optional
1 cup frozen peas
1 cup chopped mushrooms
3/4 cup green pepper strips
2 cups cooked shrimp

-In wok or deep dish fry pan heat butter toss in rice, onion soup mix and garlic powder
-keep stirring till rice starts to brown a bit don't let it burn. once it's completely coated and sizzling (add curry to if you want curried fried rice)
-Add soya sauce and stir well. -Cook off a bit of the liquid if there is any left.
-Add 3 1/4 cups of water stir well
-Bring to a boil
-Cover reduce heat to low and leave for about 35 minutes.

-If you like after 35 minutes add frozen peas, chopped mushrooms, green pepper and shrimp. -Cover again and let steam for about 10 minutes.

This is a pretty salty dish when made with the onion soup mix. If you can find it with a low salt content or perhpas a low salt beef soup mix and onion flakes instead if don't like salty foods.
